Helping You Become a More Successful Gardener
LYCOPERSICON esculentum 'Beefmaster'
Beefmaster Tomato, Tomato
This super slicing tomato is an extremely popular hybrid with dark red, meaty fruit weighing up to two pounds each. It is a short-lived tender perennial vine that is grown as an annual. Its compound leaves are medium green, hairy, have a strong fragrance and are not to be eaten. Edible fruits appear when days and nights are warm and can usually be harvested within 70 to 75 days after germination. This is an indeterminate, or vining, variety and will grow best if staked, trellised or caged.
Easy to grow and heat-loving, tomatoes require full sun and perfectly drained, slightly acidic, rich garden loam. It is important to feed and water them regularly for best fruit production, though heavy watering can cause mature fruits to crack on the vine. Blossom end rot is a common fruit defect caused by a deficiency in the essential micro-nutrient calcium, which is another reason to feed your plants well!
Beefmaster is resistant to cracking, fusarium wilt, and verticillium wilt. If happy, plants will produce delicious, beefsteak-type tomatoes abundantly throughout the growing season.
