Botanical Name
Lysimachia congestiflora
Plant Common Name
Creeping Jenny
General Description
The sprawling, carpeting stems of this herbaceous perennial from China come aglow in spring and summer with hundreds of small yellow flowers. The upfacing cup-shaped flowers cluster at the stem tips above ruffs of tightly bunched oval leaves. The flowers attract bees and butterflies. Several cultivars are available including 'Outback Sunset,' with yellow-variegated leaves, and 'Eco Dark Satin,' with rich green foliage and red-throated yellow flowers.
Grow this spreading perennial in humus-rich, moist, well-drained, acid to neutral soil. It works well as a groundcover or as a foreground, edging, or container plant. Seed-grown plants will flower the first season, making it useful as an annual.
