General Description

This well-behaved bushy beautiful vine has lots of long-lasting blooms to dazzle the eyes. Mandevilla ‘Sunmanderemi’ is sold under the name Mini Sun Parasol Crimson or Sundaviller Pretty Red and is a complex hybrid of several Mandevilla species. It is grown for its abundant moderately-sized blooms of rich crimson red. The vines are well-branched, compact and hardy with small dark green leaves with a reddish tint. They are fast-growing and ideal for garden trellises and containers with support.

Mandevilla vines originate from Central and South America. All are evergreen with glossy elliptical leaves held opposite of each other on stems. Milky sap is emitted when the stems or leaves are broken. Fabulous tubular or funnel-shaped flowers with five spreading petal lobes are borne when growing conditions are warm and favorable. The blooms may occur singly or in clusters.

Plant in full to partial sun and moist, well-drained soil. Mandevilla vines like it warm and are frost sensitive. Where not hardy, they are best grown in containers that can be moved to bright warm spots indoors to overwinter. The vines climb by twining around structures and may need support, so plant near pergolas, trellises, or fences. They are magnets for mealybugs and aphids, so check often for infestations, particularly when grown indoors.
