Miscanthus sinensis 'Blondo'
Blondo Silvergrass, Eulalia, Japanese Silvergrass
Variegated eulalia like the vigorous cultivar ‘Blondo’ will add lots of foliar interest to large borders and foundations. This tall grass originates from eastern Asia and forms dense clumps. Its long thin arching blades are green with white midribs. Sometimes they arch so low that their tips almost touch the ground. In late summer to fall plants produce many tall, upright stems topped with feathery ivory plumes that soften and curl as they dry. These remain attractive throughout winter as does the deciduous foliage, which turns a warm wheat color when it dries in autumn.
Japanese silvergrass prefers full sun and tolerates a wide range of moderately drained soils. Plants form substantial clumps that should be cut to the ground in the spring and divided every three years. They may require staking, especially if planted in partial sun. Mass variegated eulalia as a privacy screen or plant it in a large mixed beds and borders.
Miscanthus sinensis has a tendency to self-sow and can be invasive. To learn more visit: http://www.invasive.org/browse/subject.cfm?sub=3052
