Miscanthus sinensis 'Gold Bar' PP15193
Eulalia, Gold Bar Silvergrass, Japanese Silvergrass
Gold Bar silvergrass is a strikingly beautiful ornamental. This clump forming grass originates from eastern Asia and has a compact, upright habit. Its long, variegated blades are medium green crossed with strong bands of creamy yellow that give it a tiger striped appearance. In the late summer to fall plants produce many tall, upright stems topped with feathery, burgundy-hued silvery plumes that soften and curl as they dry. These, and the dry wheat-colored foliage of this grass, remain attractive throughout winter.
Japanese silvergrass prefers full sun and tolerates a wide range of moderately drained soils. Plants form substantial clumps that should be cut to the ground in the spring and divided every three years. They also reseed themselves and have been known to be somewhat invasive.
Enjoy 'Gold Bar' in large borders planted in masses or as an accent plant.
