Miscanthus sinensis 'Gracillimus'
Eulalia, Japanese Silvergrass, Maiden Grass
Maiden grass is a clump forming grass that originates from eastern Asia and has a graceful upright to arching habit. Its long, fine blades are medium green and turn a golden wheat color in the autumn. In the late summer to fall plants produce many tall, upright stems topped with feathery, copper-hued silvery plumes that soften and curl as they dry. These remain attractive throughout winter.
Japanese silvergrass prefers full sun and tolerates a wide range of moderately drained soils. Plants form substantial clumps that should be cut to the ground in the spring and divided every three years. They also reseed themselves and have been known to be somewhat invasive.
