Miscanthus sinensis 'Little Zebra' PP13008
Dwarf Zebra Silvergrass, Eulalia, Japanese Silvergrass
Dwarf zebra silvergrass looks exotic, but it is very hardy. This eastern Asian native is compact and has an upright to arching form. It is primarily grown for its variegated blades striped with alternating horizontal bands of pale yellow and medium green. In the late summer to fall plants produce many tall, upright stems topped with feathery, purple-hued silvery plumes that soften and curl as they dry. These stand above the foliage and remain attractive throughout winter.
Japanese silvergrass prefers full sun and tolerates a wide range of moderately drained soils. Plants form substantial clumps that should be cut to the ground in the spring and divided every three years. They also reseed themselves and have been known to be somewhat invasive.
Enjoy 'Little Zebra' in large containers, or as an accent or background plant in mixed beds and borders.
