Miscanthus sinensis 'Morning Light'
Eulalia, Japanese Silvergrass, Morning Light Silvergrass
What an absolutely beautiful silvergrass. The cultivar 'Morning Light' forms dense clumps of long thin blades that gracefully arch so low they sometimes touch the ground. These are pale green with razor thin white midribs that shimmer in the morning light. In the late summer to fall plants produce many tall, upright stems topped with feathery, red-hued silvery-white plumes that soften and curl as they dry. These stand above the foliage and remain attractive throughout winter.
Japanese silvergrass prefers full sun and tolerates a wide range of moderately drained soils. Plants form substantial clumps that should be cut to the ground in the spring and divided every three years. They also reseed themselves and have been known to be somewhat invasive.
Mass 'Morning Light' as a privacy screen or plant it in a large mixed beds and borders.
