Family
Amaryllidaceae
Botanical Name
Narcissus 'Geranium'
Plant Common Name
Tazetta Daffodil
General Description
An heirloom daffodil that is still among the best of its class, this Tazetta hybrid bears clusters of spicily fragrant snow-white blooms with small orange cups at their centers. The flowers are held atop relatively tall stems in mid- to late spring. Still popular more than 75 years after its introduction, this cultivar received the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit. It is one of the most cold-hardy Tazetta hybrids.
Daffodils are hardy, long-lived, clump-forming bulbs. Unlike tulips they are poisonous, so they are not eaten by small mammals and their green tops are not browsed by deer.
These are some of the easiest bulbs to grow. They prefer full to part sun and require average to fertile soil. After blooming, it is good to let their green tops photosynthesize to allow them to store plenty of fuel for next spring’s display. Once their leaves start to turn yellow, they can be cut to the ground. Divide them in summer if bloom and vigor wane.
Like all daffodils, 'Geranium' is a superb and long-lasting cutflower. It is among the best for forcing. In the landscape, it pairs well with tulips, Spanish bluebells, alliums, and spring-blooming perennials and shrubs. It is also excellent for massing.
