Shenandoah Switchgrass, Switchgrass
Shenandoah switch grass is a highly adaptable ornamental with multi-seasonal interest that originates from the United States and Canada. The foliage of this compact cultivar is blue-green with burgundy highlights and turns red to deep burgundy in autumn. Pink plumes appear from mid-summer to mid-autumn and give an overall feathery effect. Both the flowers and foliage can be left intact for winter interest. Switch grass prefers a location with full sun and adequate soil moisture but will tolerate a wide range of soil types. If you have a spacious garden and want a pleasing airy ornamental grass, look no further. Switch grass may self sow, so it is helpful to mulch around them to deter germination. These grasses are drought-tolerant once established.
