PELARGONIUM (ALLURE™ SERIES)

Image of Pelargonium (ALLURE™ SERIES)

Environmental Horticulture Dept. University of Florida

Family

Geraniaceae

Botanical Name

PELARGONIUM( ALLURE™ SERIES)

Plant Common Name

Allure™ Geraniums, Zonal Geranium

General Description

Big beautiful flower clusters are the main selling point of these vigorous zonal geraniums. Members of the Allure™ Series have robust upright habits, pretty scalloped leaves and huge clusters of semi-double flowers that come in lots of different colors. They will bloom all summer long if well-cared for. The Allure™ Series was introduced by Ball FloraPlant, A Division of Ball Horticultural Company.

These tender perennials have fragrant, somewhat fleshy evergreen leaves that are lobed and crisp medium green and sometimes have zonation patterns. Their showy flowers are semi-double and borne in big terminal clusters. Flower colors include red, white, pink, orange, purple and salmon shades.

Vigorous and easy to grow, pelargoniums prefer full to partial sun and average to fertile soil that drains well. Overwatering can result in root or crown rot. Most hybrids are everblooming and require regular deadheading for best appearance and flower production. They can be planted in mixed beds and borders, containers or hanging baskets.
