General Description

The handful of cultivars in the Blizzard™ Series are among the most heat-tolerant ivy-leaved geraniums on the market. Plants are renowned for their ivy-shaped leaves and blizzard-like bright flower displays on rather compact, mounding plants with spreading stems. They are prized as hanging basket specimens come in an array of brightly colored flowers. The small flower clusters are prolific and bloom continuously with little to no deadheading.

A summertime gem, ivy-leaved geranium is a trailing, tender evergreen perennial - often grown as an annual - noted for its leathery, ivy-like, bright green leaves and numerous colorful flower clusters. Blizzard™ ivy-leaved geraniums bear fleshy, deep green, five-lobed leaves on long, lax stems. The leaves are often cupped with coarse, zig-zag edges. Small to medium clusters of flowers appear across the plants during warm weather months, especially when daytime temperatures are warm and nights are comfortably cool with low humidity.

Blizzard™ ivy-leaved geraniums do best in full to partial sun and fertile, humus-rich, well-drained soil, preferably non-acidic in pH. Amend acidic and heavy soils with organic matter before planting. In hot climates give them several hours of midday to late afternoon shade. Water thoroughly when the soil surface feels dry, and try to keep the foliage dry. Enjoy these breathtaking plants in containers, hanging baskets and mixed border foregrounds. They're lovely cascading down a sunny wall or among large rocks on a hillside. In cold-winter climates bring them indoors to overwinter. In tropical regions, it's best to grow these geraniums in the cooler and drier autumn-to-spring time frame.
