PELARGONIUM (CALIENTE™ SERIES)

Image of Pelargonium (CALIENTE™ SERIES)

Environmental Horticulture Dept. University of Florida

Family

Geraniaceae

Botanical Name

PELARGONIUM( CALIENTE™ SERIES)

Plant Common Name

Caliente™ Geraniums, Caliente™ Zonal Geranium

General Description

The zonal geraniums in this series have low, mounding habits, somewhat ivy-shaped leaves and lots of flower clusters that come in an array of different colors. They are unusually heat tolerant and will bloom all summer long if well-cared for. The Caliente™ Series was introduced by Fischer USA.

These tender perennials have fragrant, somewhat fleshy evergreen leaves that are lobed and ivy-shaped. Their showy flowers are five-petaled and borne in big terminal clusters. Flower color includes red, white, pink, orange, purple and salmon shades.

Vigorous and easy to grow, pelargoniums prefer full to partial sun and average to fertile soil that drains well. Most hybrids are everblooming and require regular deadheading for best appearance and flower production. They can be planted in mixed beds and borders, containers or hanging baskets.
