Bosh Bruening
Family
Geraniaceae
Botanical Name
Pelargonium 'Guernsey Flair'
Plant Common Name
Guernsey Flair Geranium, Zonal Geranium
General Description
Though often advertised as pale yellow, the extra-large flower clusters of 'Guernsey Flair' are actually creamy ivory. These semi-double beauties bloom continuously when growing conditions are warm and accommodating and shine above the medium green foliage of the well-branched plants.
Pelargoniums are tender perennials with fragrant, somewhat fleshy evergreen leaves that are lobed and crisp medium green. Their colorful showy flowers and borne in big terminal clusters. Those of 'Guernsey Flair' are semi-double and pure ivory with a touch of reddish pink at the center. Deadhead flowers once spent to keep plants blooming vigorously.
Robust and easy to grow, zonal geraniums prefer full to partial sun and average to fertile soil that drains well. Overwatering can result in root or crown rot. Most hybrids are everblooming and require regular deadheading for best appearance and flower production. They can be planted in mixed beds and borders, containers or hanging baskets.
Zonal geraniums rot and deteriorate where summers are excessively hot and humid, so refrain from planting them where these weather conditions prevail.
