Syngenta
Family
Geraniaceae
Botanical Name
Pelargonium 'Schoene Helena'
Plant Common Name
Schoene Helena Geranium, Zonal Geranium
General Description
What an old-fashioned beauty for the garden. The extra-large pale salmon-pink flower clusters of 'Schoene Helena' are fully double (extra petals) and add flair to summer containers and flower borders. The early-flowering blooms of this high-performing Syngenta introduction have the added bonus of leaves with attractive darker zones.
Pelargoniums are tender perennials with fragrant, somewhat fleshy evergreen leaves that are lobed and crisp medium green with darker zones of deep green with a hint of burgundy. Their colorful showy flowers and borne in big terminal clusters. Those of 'Schoene Helena' are opaque pale salmon pink and double. Deadhead flowers once spent to keep plants blooming vigorously.
Robust and easy to grow, zonal geraniums prefer full to partial sun and average to fertile soil that drains well. Overwatering can result in root or crown rot. Most hybrids are everblooming and require regular deadheading for best appearance and flower production. They can be planted in mixed beds and borders, containers or hanging baskets.
Zonal geraniums rot and deteriorate where summers are excessively hot and humid, so refrain from planting them where these weather conditions prevail.
