General Description

A favorite of hummingbirds, this herbaceous perennial from central and eastern North America bears tall, raceme-like spikes of tubular white flowers in late spring and early summer, above large clumps of oval leaves. The blooms are sometimes tinged with purple.

This plant likes sun and well-drained soil, and tolerates heat and humidity. Use it as a cut flower, in the perennial border, or in a wildflower planting.
