PENSTEMON 'Pink Chablis'
Hybrid Beardtongue, Hybrid Penstemon, Pink Chablis Penstemon

Bright pink blossoms held in greater abundance plus amore tidy compact form gives this moisture resistant penstemon a new place in perennial gardens. Bred in Oregon, it is derived from the Saskatoon hybrids which resulted from crosses of Penstemon barbatus and a handful of other species which contribute both drought and moisture tolerance. This variety is particularly useful in the Northwest where excessive winter rains cause many penstemons to suffer root rot. Its shorter stature and more compact habit is less likely to weaken under water weight and wind.
The beautiful coloring of this variety is versatile due to evergreen foliage that survives the winter in all but the coldest climates. Dead-heading extends the blooming season as deep into fall as frost allows. This is a strong hummingbird lure. Longer lasting winter foliage also offers better off-season interest in the barren gardens. Although this hybrid is far more tolerant of moisture, it still depends on excellent drainage to look its best. Allow soil to dry between watering; feed often but mildly to keep up flower production to the fullest extent of the season.
