Family

Rubiaceae

Botanical Name

PENTAS 'Butterfly Deep Rose'( BUTTERFLY SERIES)

Plant Common Name

Starcluster

General Description

Distinguished by their large flowers and exceptional vigor, plants in the Butterfly Series are seed-grown hybrids of Pentas lanceolata, a shrubby, evergreen, tender perennial from tropical Africa.

Pentas 'Butterfly Deep Rose' bears dome-shaped heads of rose-pink flowers atop leafy, branching, knee-high stems. Both the flowerheads and the individual blooms are larger than those of most other seed-grown Pentas. Plants flower prolifically in warm to hot conditions, and nearly perpetually in mild climates. Butterflies and hummingbirds flock to the flowers.

Pentas do best in full sun and moist, well-drained, fertile soil, but will tolerate some shade and drought. Butterfly Series cultivars are perfect for mixed borders, annual beds, butterfly gardens, and containers. Plants grown as summer annuals should be started indoors in late winter. In frost-free regions they make great year-round landscape plants.
