PHLOX 'Sherbet Cocktail' PPAF
Hybrid Phlox, Sherbet Cocktail Garden Phlox
The first hybrid garden phlox to include yellow in its floral color scheme, 'Sherbet Cocktail' is a tall, upright herbaceous perennial introduced in 2007. It bears rounded clusters of yellow buds which open to pale mauve-pink, cream-rimmed flowers. Bloom is from midsummer to early fall. Removing spent clusters prompts the growth of secondary clusters from buds lower on the stem. The paired lance-shaped leaves are mildew-resistant.
This perennial does best in full sun and moist fertile well-drained soil. It benefits from good air circulation so give it room. When the leaves dry quickly after a rain or watering, there is less risk of powdery mildew (a disfiguring leaf disease). The flowers may bleach in hot sun. Plant several specimens en masse for the best show of bloom. This is a useful perennial in formal borders and a good producer of cut flowers.
