Botanical Name

PHLOX 'Usphl03'( INTENSIA® NEON PINK, INTENSIA® SERIES) PP15846

Plant Common Name

Hybrid Phlox, Intensia® Neon Pink Phlox

General Description

Large, intense pink flowers with darker rose-pink eyes bedeck Intensia® Neon Pink. Phlox in the Intensia® Series produce a profusion of extra large, brightly colored blooms throughout the growing season. These heat tolerant annuals are hybrids of Drummond's phlox, a native of the southwestern United States. They have upright, spreading habits and are ideal for bright flower gardens and containers. The compact plants are humidity, heat and frost tolerant and the flowers fragrant.

Small, narrow, lance-shaped leaves adorn the tender stems of Intensia® phlox. The five-petaled blooms are tubular at the base and flattened and radial at the mouth. They range in color from violet-blue to white, pink and purple. The flowers are often lighter towards the center and the petal lobes marked with spots of darker color. The blossoms attract butterflies.

Grow annual phlox in full sun and fertile, well-drained garden soil. Plant it outdoors only after the danger of frost has passed. It does not fare well in high heat and is best planted as a winter annual in southern zones where hard freezes are rare. Intensia® phlox blooms through most of the season and does not require deadheading, but light pruning at the end of summer will promote heavy flowering until freezing temperatures arrive. These lovely annuals lend bright color to seasonal beds, window boxes and container plantings. This vegetatively propagated cultivar is available only as plants.
