James H. Schutte

Family

Lamiaceae

Botanical Name

PHYSOSTEGIA virginiana 'Miss Manners' PP12637

Plant Common Name

Miss Manners Obedient Plant, Obedient Plant

General Description

What a well behaved obedient plant for the late summer garden. Unlike other selections, 'Miss Manners' is compact, clump forming and does not spread aggressively. In midsummer to fall, it develops tall, sturdy stems lined with toothed green leaves and topped with spikes of white tubular flowers that attract hummingbirds and bees.

Obedient plant likes full to part sun and moist, average to well drained soil. To keep them manageable, it is best to divide plants every two to three years. They make wonderful additions to wildflower borders, hummingbird gardens or mixed borders.
