A lax, low-growing, creeping herbaceous perennial native to the central and eastern United States and eastern Canada, this charming plant produces pale violet-blue blooms on branching stems in spring. The dark green, ferny foliage is also attractive. White-flowered and variegated selections are available.
This perennial prefers moist well-drained soil and partial shade. Deadhead to prevent self-sowing. Plant in a woodland edge or shady border. Slugs may be a problem.
