PRUNUS persica 'Peppermint Stick'
Ornamental Peach, Peppermint Stick Peach
Introduced in 1933, this ornamental peach features large, fragrant, snow white blossoms with beautiful, irregular red striping. Appearing in spring, its striking double flowers are borne so densely that they seem to envelop the branches in solid color. The blooms are followed by bright green lance-shaped leaves that turn yellow in fall. This beautiful small tree makes a fine accent or specimen for home landscapes, and is a lovely choice for Asian-themed garden designs.
Flowering peaches are valued for their showy flowers rather than for their fruit, which is small and insignificant. They are descended from the wild peach, a small deciduous tree native to China that has been cultivated since ancient times. As with all peaches, they prefer full sun and fertile, well-drained soil, and are susceptible to a variety of pests and diseases.
