Botanical Name
Prunus 'Snofozam'(SNOW FOUNTAIN®)
Plant Common Name
Snow Fountain® Weeping Cherry, Weeping Cherry
General Description
The weeping branches of this hybrid cherry are mantled with snowy flowers in early spring, before the leaves appear. It can be grown as a groundcover or as a small tree.
This hardy deciduous tree has oval, serrated, dark green leaves that turn yellow, orange, and burgundy in fall. The leaves are alternately borne along the pendulous gray-barked branches. A blizzard of pure white, five-petaled flowers envelops the branches in early spring. A few small, black, inedible fruits may follow the flowers. This weak-trunked cherry is typically grafted on a straight or sinuous understock to form a small weeping tree with ground-sweeping branches. Unstaked, cutting-grown specimens will remain prostrate.
Snow Fountain® weeping cherry flourishes in sun and moderately moist, well-drained soil. Tree forms require protection from strong winds. Use this cultivar as a specimen plant, in a formal border, as a bank cover, or for bonsai.
