Sharptop Trees
Family
Rosaceae
Botanical Name
PRUNUS 'Snow Goose'
Plant Common Name
Flowering Cherry, Snow Goose Flowering Cherry
General Description
In early to mid-spring, the upright branches of ornamental cherry ‘Snow Goose’ are flocked with single, five-petaled white blossoms. These feature delicate, light pink stamens which gradually darken to deeper rose over time. Bright green leaves emerge as the flowering subsides, which in autumn turn to shades of yellow and gold with flashes of red. Small, inedible, blue-black fruits may occasionally develop following bloom. This deciduous small tree possesses an upright form which becomes more rounded with maturity.
Plant this disease and insect-resistant cherry in full to partial sun and fertile, well-drained soil. Although drought tolerant, it displays best growth and overall beauty with regular moisture. Use it as an ornamental flowering accent tree in the yard or along a street. Its snowy flowers will stand out if the tree is planted in front of a dark colored building or backdrop of evergreens.
