RHAPHIOLEPIS indica 'Monant'(WHITE ENCHANTRESS®)
Indian Hawthorn
This entry has yet to be reviewed and approved by L2G editors.
Sweetly scented flowers grace the mounding habit of White Enchantress® Indian hawthorn. Native to southern China this compact broadleaf-evergreen shrub is a garden staple in the US Sunbelt. Also known as 'Monant' this selection produces loose clusters of fragrant, white flowers from spring into early summer. The leathery, glossy, dark green, lance-shaped leaves develop a reddish tint in winter.
Indian hawthorn excels in full sun and fertile, well-drained, slightly acidic soil. Leaf spot can be a problem on some cultivars so avoid overhead watering and collect and dispose of diseased leaves to keep plants healthy. Use White Enchantress® as a low hedge or as a backdrop for a flower border. It can also be grown under glass in cooler areas.
