Rich dark pink blooms and an loose open habit are assets of 'Monray' which is also known by the trade name Spring Rapture®. Indian hawthorn is a compact broadleaf-evergreen shrub native to southern China. This selection produces loose clusters of fragrant, rosy flowers in spring and intermittently through summer. They are sometimes followed by blue-black berries that are partially hidden by the leathery, glossy, dark green leaves.
East to grow, Indian hawthorn needs lots of sun and fertile, well-drained, slightly acidic soil to perform its best. The open habit of Spring Rapture allows air circulation that discourages leaf diseases but it is susceptible, so watering at the base and good sanitation are also beneficial. This pollution and salt tolerant plant makes a great low hedge or backdrop for flowers. It can also be grown under glass in cooler areas.
