Botanical Name
Rhododendron 'Amagasa'( Satsuki Hybrid)
Plant Common Name
Amagasa Azalea, Evergreen Azalea, Satsuki Azalea
General Description
Satsuki hybrid azaleas are evergreen shrubs prized for their large flowers and low compact habit. They have been extensively cultivated in Japan for over 300 years and are frequently used as specimen plants in traditional Japanese gardens and for bonsai.
The cultivar 'Amagasa' is a heavy bloomer that produces large, dark coral pink, star-shaped flowers flecked with red. These generally appear in mid to late spring.
Most azaleas prefer part sun to shade and thrive in well drained, organic rich soil. Satsuki hybrids are versatile and look great planted in woodland settings, mixed borders or containers.
