Botanical Name

Plant Common Name
Azuma-kagami Azalea, Evergreen Azalea, Kurume Azalea
General Description
Azuma-kagami azalea is a very low growing, dense evergreen shrub with a rounded to spreading habit, and attractive tiered branches. It blooms in early to mid spring and bears profuse clusters (trusses) of bright pink blooms with darker pink markings.
This evergreen azalea should be grown in part sun to shade and acidic, organic-rich, well-drained soil. This cultivar will prosper if summers are warm and winters mild but still cold enough to allow for formation of flower buds the following spring. Commonly used in Japanese gardens and for bonsai, the azuma-kagami azalea is also well suited to shaded foundation beds, woodland mass plantings and rock gardens.
