RHODODENDRON 'Pink Carousel'

Family

Ericaceae

Botanical Name

RHODODENDRON 'Pink Carousel'( Aromi Group)

Plant Common Name

Aromi Hybrid Azalea, Deciduous Azalea, Pink Carousel Azalea

General Description

Bred in Mobile, Alabama, the Aromi deciduous azaleas result from crosses between Southeast United States natives (primarily Rhododendron austrinum) and hybrid azaleas such as the Exburys. The showy pink funnel-shaped flowers of the cultivar 'Pink Carousel' open from scarlet buds in mid-spring. The clustered blooms bear a gold blotch on their upper petals. The upright medium-sized plants have lance-shaped light green leaves. Aromi azaleas prefer partial shade and highly organic acid soil that is evenly moist but well drained. Plant them shallowly and mulch well to conserve moisture and suppress weeds. They like warm summers and cool winters and require some winter cold for optimal growth. The flower buds develop in summer for the following spring’s display, so prune shortly after flowering, if necessary. Ideally, plant them where they will not require pruning.

Aromi Hybrids make ideal subjects for mixed borders and shrub plantings in partial shade.
