Rosa 'Kormiach'(LIEBESZAUBER)
Plant Common Name
Hybrid Tea Rose
General Description
This shrub rose, ‘Kormiach,’ is notable for its vigor and red, red flowers that are large, velvety, fragrant, cupped and double (extra petals). They are borne at the tip of new stems, starting in late spring and continuing in flushes as long as stems appear and mature. This is a vigorous, upright deciduous shrub, with erect, much-branched, thorny stems and a spreading top. The flower clusters appear across the canopy of the plant and contrast strongly with the shiny, green leaves.
For best growth and flowering, plant ‘Kormiach’ (also known as Liebeszauber) in full sun on average, well-drained soil. This rose is very disease resistant. Nonetheless, plant it with room for breezes to dry the leaves after rains. Mulch it to conserve moisture and enrich the soil. Fertilize lightly to avoid producing overly vigorous stems. Deadhead (remove spent flowers) to encourage re-bloom. Prune spent stems to the first leaf with five leaflets and a bud at its base to prompt the growth of a new stem and flower cluster. In cold climates, cut back the stems in early winter and heap dirt or dry leaves over them. In warm climates, cut back the stems by one third. In all climates, prune diseased, ill-placed or crossing stems in spring.
Use ‘Kormiach’ as a specimen in mixed beds and borders, against a south-facing wall or fence, or as a hedge. The flowers are very good for cutting.
