ROSA 'La Marne'

Family

Rosaceae

Botanical Name

ROSA 'La Marne'

Plant Common Name

La Marne Polyantha Rose, Polyantha Rose

General Description

A typical polyantha rose, ‘La Marne’ is a small, deciduous, upright shrub that blooms with clusters of small, fragrant flowers from mid-spring well into autumn. The clusters have four to eight pink and cream, open flowers, each with up to fifteen petals, and the leaves are dark green and shiny. The shrub is much-branched, dense, disease-resistant and almost thornless.

Like most roses, ‘La Marne’ grows and flowers best in full sun and average to rich, well-drained soil. It needs a steady supply of nutrients and water, but fertilize and water sparingly to avoid encouraging lanky growth. Mulch with compost, shredded leaves, or composted manure to enrich the soil and conserve moisture. To encourage repeated flushes of bloom, prune spent stems to a leaf with five or more leaflets and a bud at its base. A new stem will arise from the bud. Cuttings root readily to make new plants. Use ‘La Marne’ as a specimen plant in a mixed border, grouped in a mass planting, against a south facing wall or fence, or in a container
