Rosaceae
Botanical Name
Rosa 'Macauck'(OLYMPIAD™) PP5519
Plant Common Name
Hybrid Tea Rose, Olympiad™ Hybrid Tea Rose
General Description
A vigorous hybrid tea rose, Olympiad blooms with cupped, double (extra petals) flowers that are a bright, true red and lightly fragrant. This deciduous, much-branched and upright shrub is moderately hardy and moderately tall for the Tea group. The flowers are large and borne singly at the tip of new stems that typically grow long enough for cutting. The leaves are glossy and dark green and the stems are thorny.
Like most roses, Olympiad (also known as ‘Macauck’) grows and flowers best in full sun and average, well-drained soil. It also needs a steady supply of nutrients and water, but fertilize and water sparingly or the new stems will be lax and susceptible to diseases. It helps to give the plant room so breezes can dry the leaves after a rain. Remove diseased leaves from the plant and the ground. Encourage continuous flowering by pruning spent stems. Use Olympiad in mixed borders, along a south-facing wall or fence, planted in a group for a hedge, or for cutting.
