Botanical Name
Rosa 'Meigenpi'(RAINBOW SUNBLAZE) PP17481
Plant Common Name
Miniature Rose, Rainbow Sunblaze® Rose
General Description
The charm of a miniature rose lies in the contrast between its small size and extravagant bloom. This one, Rainbow Sunblaze, blooms non-stop and profusely from late spring into autumn. The flowers are very double (up to 70 petals) and yellow with red-orange edges, opening in clusters held above the leaves, which are medium-green and glossy. It’s a compact deciduous shrub with many upright stems and branches, each tipped with a cluster of flowers. At the height of the first flush of bloom, this little plant almost covers itself with flowers and buds. Though small, it is vigorous, with good resistance to rose diseases.
Also known as ‘Meigenpi,’ Rainbow Sunblaze grows and flowers best in full sun, on fertile, well-drained soil. Fertilize lightly, mulch with compost, composted manure, or shredded leaves to enrichthe soil and hold moisture, and water during prolonged, dry spells. Cut back branches that have flowered to prompt the growth of new branches and prolong flowering. Protect the plant in winter by heaping dirt around it or covering it with dry leaves contained in a wire cage. Use Rainbow Sunblaze as a container specimen, grouped as a groundcover or edging, or for summer color in a mixed bed or border. A flower cluster in a vase can last almost two weeks.
