Family
Rosaceae
Botanical Name
Rosa 'Meipelta'(FUCHSIA MEIDILAND™) PP8839
Plant Common Name
Fuchsia Meidiland™ Shrub Rose, Shrub Rose
General Description
The bright fuchsia pink blooms of this virtually trouble-free landscape rose brighten the landscape all season long. Fuchsia Meidiland™ was introduced in 1991 by the well-known Meilland family of rose hybridizers based in Antibes, France. This hardy selection is the result of a cross between Rosa ‘Meitiraca’ and Rosa ‘Meimont.'
Fuchsia Meidiland™ is a low-growing shrub rose with stems lined with sharp woody thorns. Its compound leaves are shiny, leathery and dark green. From late spring to frost, it offers an abundance of long-lasting, semi-double fuchsia flowers. These are borne in clusters and have little fragrance. The flowers will bloom with greater vigor if the spent blooms are removed.
Roses prefer full to partial sun, moderate temperatures and perfectly drained, slightly acid soil with average to good fertility. They grow best in places with slightly dry climates, because such climates disfavor the fungal diseases that plague them. For this reason, it is important to maintain good airflow within and between planted roses through good planting and pruning practices which will dissuade fungal attacks. Roses are rife with pest and disease problems. In fact, there are many common pests and diseases that can harm them. Fortunately, cultivars like Fuchsia Meidiland™ are bred to be disease resistant.
Shrub roses are a landscape must. They are perfect for sunny foundations, mixed borders and large landscapes. Enjoy these carefree beauties massed in a sweep or planted singly as accent plants.
