Rosa 'Meipotal'(CAREFREE DELIGHT) PP8841
Carefree Delight Shrub Rose, Shrub Rose
Bountiful clusters of carmine pink, single roses blanket this high-performing shrub rose throughout the growing season. It is a vigorous, very winter hardy rose that also boasts exceptional disease resistance. This 1992 introduction is one of many roses hybridized in France by the Meilland family.
Carefree Delight is a woody deciduous shrub with stems lined with sharp thorns. It has a bushy habit, thick, glossy compound leaves of reddish green, and is everblooming. Its abundant clusters of single flowers are rich pink with golden yellow anthers. The blooms are long-lasting, have light fragrance and petals that drop cleanly.
Roses prefer full to partial sun, moderate temperatures and perfectly drained, slightly acid soil with average to good fertility. They grow best in places with slightly dry climates, because such climates disfavor the fungal diseases that plague them. For this reason, it is important to maintain good airflow within and between planted roses through good planting and pruning practices which will dissuade fungal attacks. Roses are rife with pest and disease problems. Fortunately, newer cultivars like this are bred to be disease resistant.
