Cherry Meillandecor™ Shrub Rose, Shrub Rose

General Description

Magnificent as an accent shrub or hedge rose, Cherry Meillandecor™ bears carmine red blooms with white centers from summer to fall. This French cultivar was introduced in 1995 by the well-known Meilland family of rose hybridizers. The rose clusters are self-cleaning and plants resistant Marssonina disease.

Cherry Meillandecor™ is a bushy deciduous shrub with strong stems moderately lined with sharp thorns. Its foliage emerges with a light bronze cast and matures to satiny medium green. The medium-sized, simple, five-petaled flowers are carmine with a blotch of white at the center. Petal undersides are crackled or edged in red and white. Flowering occurs continuously throughout the season. Each branch displays up to 12 flowers at a time.

Roses prefer full to partial sun, moderate temperatures and perfectly drained, slightly acid soil with average to good fertility. They grow best in places with slightly dry climates, because such climates disfavor the fungal diseases that plague them. For this reason, it is important to maintain good airflow within and between planted roses through good planting and pruning practices which will dissuade fungal attacks. Roses are rife with pest and disease problems. Fortunately, newer cultivars are bred to be disease resistant.
