ROSA (OSO HAPPY™ SERIES)

Image of Rosa (OSO HAPPY™ SERIES)

Family

Rosaceae

Botanical Name

ROSA( OSO HAPPY™ SERIES)

Plant Common Name

Oso Happy™ Rose, Shrub Rose

General Description

Roses in the Oso Happy® Series are bred to be heavy-blooming, disease-resistant, and Minnesota-hardy.

Compound leaves with glossy deep-green leaflets cover the thorny branches of these compact shrub roses. Clusters of small roses open in flushes from spring to fall. Two Oso Happy® cultivars have been introduced: Petit Pink, with double pink flowers; and Candy Oh, with single red blooms. Both were bred by Minnesota hybridizer David Zlesak.

Oso Happy® roses do best in full to partial sun and fertile, moist, well-drained soil. Plants require little pruning. Watch for insect pests such as Japanese beetles and rose slugs. Fungal diseases are usually not a problem. Intermittent fertilizing and regular water will help keep these roses in flower and in health. Oso Happy® roses make ideal subjects for containers, mixed borders, informal hedges, and groundcover plantings.
