Rosa 'Souvenir de La Malmaison Rouge'
Bourbon Rose, Red Souvenir de la Malmaison Bourbon Rose
The "old rose" 'Souvenir de La Malmaison Rouge' produces flushes of moderately fragrant, deep pink blooms on compact stems. This Bourbon Rose was introduced in 1861.
This bushy deciduous shrub bears dark green, compound leaves along its prickly, upright to arching stems. In late spring or summer it produces small clusters of large, double, rose-pink flowers, with bloom repeating into fall. The cupped, flat-topped blooms do not hold well in rainy weather.
This cold-hardy rose grows best in temperate climates with enough winter chill to allow for dormancy. It prefers full to part sun and good air circulation, and tolerates a wide variety of soils. Use as a hedge, in mixed borders, or in cottage gardens
