ROSA 'The Fairy'
Polyantha Rose, The Fairy Polyantha Rose
Polyantha roses are garden classics valued for their compact habit, long season of bloom and fantastic clusters of small, mildly fragrant flowers. The cultivar 'The Fairy' produces large sprays of small, delicate, double, pale pink, flowers from early summer through fall. It is markedly cold hardy and grows best in temperate climates with enough winter chill to allow for dormancy.
Roses prefer full to partial sun, moderate temperatures and perfectly drained, slightly acid soil with average to good fertility. They grow best in slightly dry climates, because dry air disfavors the many fungal diseases that plague roses. In moister areas, it is important to maintain good airflow within and between roses through good planting and pruning practices. Roses are also susceptible to a suite of viral and bacterial diseases as well as insect pests, so it is wise to select robust and resistant cultivars. This cultivar is susceptible to black spot.
Compact, shrubby roses such as this are ideal for both garden and foundation plantings. The clusters of flowers are also long-lasting when cut and retain their fragrance in bouquets.
