Rudbeckia hirta 'Autumn Colors'
Autumn Colors Black-eyed Susan, Common Black-eyed Susan
This is actually a mix of large-flowered black-eyed Susans that come in warm festive shades of yellow, orange, copper brown and russet red perfect for Autumn. They are heavy flowering and offer lots of blooms throughout most of summer and fall, with deadheading. In southerly climes they may even bloom into winter. This mix was introduced by Ernst Benary Samenzucht GmbH and was awarded a Fleuroselect Quality Award for its high performance and beauty.
Common black-eyed Susan, also called gloriosa daisy, is a short-lived perennial that originates from North America. It is wonderfully easy to grow and blooms for an extended period of time. Throughout summer, the clump-forming plant puts forth thick leafy stems topped with large flowers that attract pollinators such as bees and butterflies. The pretty daisies have dark central cones. Deadhead regularly to encourage continued bloom.
Provide full sun and well-drained, average soil for best performance. Gloriosa daisy is prone to root rot and powdery mildew, so space it well to encourage good air flow and allow its soil to dry between watering. This popular ornamental is at home in wildflower gardens, cutting gardens and mixed borders. The plants in ‘Autumn Colors’ will self-sow gently each year.
