Rudbeckia hirta 'Cherry Brandy'
Cherry Brandy Black-eyed Susan, Common Black-eyed Susan
Though sold as a single cultivar, the seed-grown 'Cherry Brandy' yields a suite of different plants that produce variable single daisies with dark centers and dark red, burgundy, apricot and chocolate ray petals. Plant heights also vary. These sun-loving, short-lived perennials are excellent for cutting and will brighten any sunny flower border.
Common black-eyed Susan, also called gloriosa daisy, is a short-lived perennial that is native to much of North America. It is a warm season bloomer that forms a clump of foliage from which rises thick, leafy stems topped with large daisies with prominent, raised dark-brown or black centers. These make superb cut flowers and attract many pollinators, such as bees and butterflies.
Grow Rudbeckia hirta in full sun and well-drained soil with average fertility. It is prone to root rot and powdery mildew, so space it well to encourage good air flow. Allow its soil to dry between watering. This effortless ornamental is at home in cutting gardens and any sunny flower garden where hot summer color is needed. Like many black-eyed Susans, it will self-sow.
