Botanical Name

RUDBECKIA hirta( Rustic Colors Mix)

Plant Common Name

Common Black-eyed Susan, Rustic Colors Mix Black-eyed Susan

General Description

The warm and inviting flower colors of Rustic Colors Mix are mahogany, bronze-red and gold. The large, single-flowered black-eyed Susans are compact, easy to grow and offer lots of blooms in the heat of summer.

Common black-eyed Susan, also called gloriosa daisy, is a short-lived perennial that originates from North America. It is wonderfully easy to grow and blooms for an extended period of time. Throughout the summer, the clump-forming, short-lived perennial puts forth, thick, leafy stems topped with colorful flowers that attract pollinators such as bees and butterflies. The pretty daisies are large, colorful and have dark central cones. Deadhead regularly to encourage continued bloom. If the seed heads are left to dry, they will attract seed eating birds.

Rudbeckia hirta grows best in full sun and well-drained, average soil. It is prone to root rot and powdery mildew, so space it well to encourage good air flow and allow its soil to dry between watering. This popular ornamental is at home in wildflower gardens, cutting gardens and mixed borders. Like many black-eyed Susans, the plants in this mix will self-sow gently, and the progeny will be as variable as the parent plants.
