Family
Crassulaceae
Botanical Name
SEDUM selskianum 'Goldilocks'
Plant Common Name
Stonecrop
General Description
Distinguished from the closely related Sedum kamtschaticum by its more compact growth and its narrower foliage, Sedum selskianum is a hardy, handsome, and well-behaved perennial from the Amur River region of Northeast Asia. The seed-grown cultivar 'Goldilocks' is an especially compact selection. The flat, minutely hairy, lance-shaped leaves are alternately deployed on dense, upright, low, forming a lush mound. The leaves have a prominent midrib and serrated edges. Abundant flat clusters of small starry bright golden-yellow flowers appear at the stem tips in late spring and summer. First-year plants bloom later.
This perennial does best in porous soil and full sun to light shade. It thrives in sun drenched rock gardens, crumbling walls or rocky scree. It also does well in containers in well-drained potting mix. This little fellow is an ideal choice for gardens in the Rockies and other higher elevations throughout the arid western United States.
