Sedum spurium 'Dragon's Blood' ('Schorbuser Blut')
Dragon's Blood Sedum, Tworow Stonecrop
Notable for the purple tint of its leaves and its deep pink flowers, 'Dragon's Blood' otherwise resembles other cultivars of Sedum spurium, being a vigorous, low, creeping, evergreen, perennial groundcover. Native to Iran and the Caucasus, tworow stonecrop has branching trailing stems, chubby succulent green leaves, and small pink or white flowers in dense domed clusters that appear at the end of the stems in early summer, attracting many pollinators, including honeybees.
This is a tough plant and a reliable carpeting groundcover of uniform height that spreads readily but is easily contained by pulling up new branches that have rooted or pruning them before they root. It thrives in full sun to partial sun on well-drained soil. It is best planted at the front of borders or the lip of retaining walls.
