Crassulaceae
Sedum spurium 'Voodoo'
Tworow Stonecrop, Voodoo Stonecrop
Prized for the colors of its leaves and stems, 'Voodoo' is a creeping evergreen sedum. When young and small the leaves are green. At full size they are overlain with gray and blend to maroon at the edges. The stems are maroon too and they run on the ground, so they are mostly hidden below the leaves, which rise to a uniform height, making the plant a tidy groundcover of unusual color. The flowers, which appear all summer, are small rose-colored stars in dome-like clusters at the turned-up ends of the stems. They attract honeybees and other pollinators.
This species is native to western Eurasia. It prefers full sun and well-drained soil. It does well on hot, occasionally dry sites such as the top of a retaining wall. In beds and borders, plant 'Vodoo' near the front for visibility and allow it to spread so it contrasts both in color and size with its larger neighbors.
