General Description

Alpine goldenrod is a nicely clumping perennial that shows off spikes of yellow flowers from mid summer to late summer. A wildflower of the northeastern United States, it grows into a wide clumping mat that grows under knee height. Its yellow blossoms remain directly upon the main stems, creating drifts of small yellow columnheads over the cushion of dark green leaves.

Alpine goldenrod performs best when grown in full sun in well-draining soils with average fertility. Once established it demonstrates good drought tolerance. Monitor for rust and other fungal diseases, such problems can be diminished with good air circulation, full sunlight and avoiding over-wetting foliage during irrigation. Alpine goldenrod makes a nice groundcover or specimen plant in a rockery or cottage garden.
