Family

Araceae

Botanical Name

SPATHIPHYLLUM 'Petite'

Plant Common Name

Peace Lily

General Description

The tiny Spathiphyllum, 'Petite', is admired for its super compact habit and elegant white blooms. In fact, it is the smallest of the Spathiphyllum hybrids. Like all other peace lilies, it is an evergreen perennial that traces its origins to the tropics of the Americans and Southeast Asia.

This bushy cultivar forms lush clumps of shiny, dark green foliage borne on erect stem-like petioles. The broadly lance-shaped leaves have prominent veins and pointed tips. Like all members of the aroid family, 'Mauna Loa Supreme' bears unusual blooms, each with a finger-like floral column (spadix) surrounded by a large petal-like leaf (spathe). These are held above the foliage atop leafless stems. The snowy blooms are long-lasting and turn green as they age. Flowering can occur year round but is most prevalent from winter to summer.

This highly frost-tender tropical needs protection from cold temperatures, whether grown inside or out. Bright indirect light, high humidity, and evenly moist but well-drained growing medium are ideal. Provide shade from intense sun and water and fertilize regularly. Peace lilies are among the best plants for low-light conditions.

Spathiphyllum 'Petite' is a lovely, low-maintenance landscape plant for the tropics. It's also perfect for indoor or outdoor container plantings.
