Family

Cupressaceae

Botanical Name

THUJA occidentalis 'Little Giant'

Plant Common Name

American Arborvitae, Eastern Arborvitae, Little Giant Arborvitae, White Cedar

General Description

A little more round than it is a giant, ‘Little Giant’ arborvitae is a compact, spherical, dwarf scaled evergreen shrub originating from eastern North America. This popular cultivar has soft, dense, feathery, dark green foliage covering branches.

Arborvitae performs best in full to part sun and slightly acidic soil with average drainage. In winter it appreciates protection from severe sun and high winds, which can cause leaf scorch. Highly versatile, ‘Little Giant’ is an excellent plant for walkways, in rock gardens, foundation plantings, or mixed borders. Its round shape contrasts nicely with ornamentals with upright, arching or prostrate habits.
