Asteraceae
Botanical Name
Thymophylla tenuiloba
Plant Common Name
Dahlberg Daisy, Golden Fleece
General Description
A tender, short-lived perennial that bears sunny flowers over low lacy mounds of ferny foliage, this native of Mexico and the southern United States is typically used as a summer or winter annual. Small, starry, bright yellow daisies appear on calf-high stems from early summer to fall, attracting bees and butterflies. The thread-like, dark green leaves are pungently fragrant if bruised.
Dahlberg daisy needs ample sun and average to fertile, well-drained soil. It appreciates some water while growing, but does poorly in humid or damp conditions. It reseeds itself, popping up in the most charming of locales, such as containers, stone walkways, or walls.
